My name is David Shaw and I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I work primarily in Renfrewshire and also provide online therapy sessions. See Sessions and Prices page for full details.
Counselling can help you in recognising and utilising your personal signature strengths.
Avalon supports you to make sense of your problems and build coping strategies to overcome your current difficulties.
I provide counselling designed to support you to adjust and cope with life changes. I work in collaboration with you by helping you overcome anxiety, stress, grief and depression. I am trained in compassion focused therapy and integrate this approach into my practice.
Each individual has their own unique perspectives and experiences, and personal signature strengths. I pay close attention to understanding each person's specific life situation to enable us to forge a therapeutic alliance and find a way forward towards your goals.
My counselling practice involves Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Avalon counselling utilises techniques from CBT and CFT to support you to cope with:
- Challenging relationships
- Low self-esteem
- Disordered eating
My experience of providing counselling has shown me that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to helping people implement positive changes in their lives. Working together, we will develop a treatment plan that works best for you. CBT involves identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and changing these by replacing them with more helpful ways of thinking. This process in turn helps you to challenge beliefs that are keeping you stuck. In changing the way you think, you will be able to learn coping skills to manage difficult emotions and modify your behaviour to overcome difficulties.
My Qualifications Include:
- COSCA CBT Dip
- Post Graduate Certificate Leadership in Addiction treatment services
- Post Graduate Diploma in Drugs and Alcohol studies
- BA Social Science
I am fully insured and receive regular practice supervision in line with COSCA guidelines. This is to ensure I work to the highest professional standards and ethical practice. For further information on ethical practices see COSCA website here http://www.cosca.org.uk/
